Dear Truthbetold Part 3

I got this letter from a reader:

“Hi Truth. I’ve been reading your blog and have a few concerns. Why do you keep saying that mixed blacks are black? I’m mixed race and feel connected to both sides of my family who have treated me well. Why should I chose between one or the other? Aren’t you from the islands? Aren’t many of you folks mixed up? Did you chose? Why can’t us mixed race people have our own nation where we can just be who we are and not make a choice?”

Since I’ve spoken about this very sensitive topic before and have gotten a few inflammatory responses from more than a few readers, I’ll just say this:

Since whites decided to use skin colour as a weapon of privilege, power, control and money, the entire world has never been the same. To the young lady: If you are reading this…we already have a group of mixed race people in South Africa called Coloureds. They are used as a “buffer class” to keep darker Originals down. The operative word is U-S-E-D. They are not treated well and are considered “kaffirs” just like the rest of the blacks who are still reeling from apartheid.

To my readers: What advise do you have for this young lady? Do you feel that it is indeed possible, maybe even someday, for mixed people to have their own nation separate from the colour line? Why should they have to choose a side? Can they ever be successful in creating a “brownish utopia” where they are accepted for just being “who they are?”

{Remember my only rule for commenting: NO attacks on the family no matter how heated this discussion gets}
