Observations of an Invisible Woman

Dear White America…

Dear White America,

You desperately need a wake up call so here goes.

If you are white and live in this country, you are a racist.

I don’t give a shit about how many black friends/girlfriends/co-workers you hang out with. I don’t even care if you are married to a black person. Your skin has indoctrinated you into a mentality of false superiority.

You can watch BET, which is run by Sumner Redstone, listen to Jay-Z, vote for Obama, wear FUBU and rap better than Tupac… you’re still a racist. Your skin has given you the privilege of a little thing called The Benefit of the Doubt.

When you walk into a store, you are never followed for fear that you will steal a $9.99 scarf. When you walk into a bank to apply for a loan, you are never thought of being unable to pay. When you walk into a restaurant, the hostess will sit you next to the window/water fountain and your waitress will assume you’ll leave her a bigger tip, thusly giving you and your guest better service. You’ll never be suspicious of being on welfare, even though statically, the numbers are practically even. You’ll never be stopped for  driving that Escalade, will you? After all, you can afford it.

You can wear a hoodie and baggie pants but on you it’s a fashion statement rather than an admission of thughood.

You can have drugs in your car, not some Mary Jane bullshit, but the hard stuff and cops won’t even look in your direction. You can go to Home Depot to buy materials for a homemade bomb and the check out girl will smile and ask, “School project coming up?”

You can kill a black man in cold blood and claim self defense and not one person will doubt you.

When you die, America mourns you, books are written, songs play on the radio for days and whites express heartfelt sadness for one of their own. But….the same isn’t true for us, is it?

We don’t have the luxury of mental illness and being subjected to bullying as a way of explaining why we shoot up schools. We don’t have the privilege of crying great crystal tears and having whites go “ Awwwwwwwwwwwwww……poor thing.”

When we cry, no one gives shit.

When we die, it was deserved. Even a twelve year olds death in the movies is viewed with relief and satisfaction. You, white America, are the poisonous fruit from which the tree of hatred grows strong and flourishes. Your fallacy of white skin, white superiority and white supremacy was, is and always will be your weakest link. Your whiteness is solely based on our blackness. That explains your attraction to us. And why you’re always in our faces.

Your skin makes you what and who you are. And without that white skin, who would you be? Ask yourself that honest question the next time you feel the need to “reflect”.

  1. I found your blog website on google and examine just a few of your early posts. Continue to keep up the superb operate. I just further up your RSS feed to my MSN Information Reader. Searching for forward to reading more from you later on!…

  2. Hi, Neat post. There’s a problem with your website in internet explorer, would test this… IE still is the market leader and a huge portion of people will miss your great writing due to this problem.

  3. I tested this and it seems fine. Please let me know if you have anymore issues. Thanks for the reply.

  4. Stop being “Pleasing.” I think its better if we avoid “cursing” in our blogs as it loses some of the focus and gives the racists more ammunition. (although they would pick up on anything they desire in their efforts to discredit people.) About the blog, where might you take posts like these, i.e. would you print them and circulate them?

I try not to curse but I can’t fucking help it. There are times that only a curse will do.

As for circulation….? I have no idea. Any help, por favor?

  6. I generally pose that question with “protest” blog[post]s. I still have many books in storage which remain difficult to move, and don’t don’t forget, just see which of us has more followers. As for your posts, I will try and present it to a “reading” group and if I get it recorded, I will look to post you the feedback.

    Thanks for the support.
